Sportworks team with Lacrosse for the National School's Competition

- Oct 25, 2011

Sportworks have recently teamed up with the English Lacrosse Association (ELA) to deliver the National Schools Competition at the Imperial College Sport Ground, London, in March 2012.

The National School's Competition was established for the U19 and U15 girl age groups, allowing the top teams in the country to compete together. Using our extensive sporting and commercial experience, Sportworks will encourage the development competition, providing a professional edge to the look, feel and delivery of the event. One key aim will be to provide an event that will continue to grow over the course of our partnership with the ELA.

Lacrosse currently has a growing profile within the UK and the ELA aim to persist with improving the participation figures to, eventually, convey a more even geographical spread throughout the nation. It is felt that with the presence and support of an organisation such as Sportworks this can be achieved. Coupled with this strategy the ELA are looking to build upon the recent successful hosting of the World Championships in Manchester, and growth in participation rates across the UK by continuing with the long-term aim to gain Olympic status.

Traditionally, the American and Canadian community had primarily played lacrosse, until around 20 years ago, when Britain and Australia began to participate more seriously. Historically it is a fast paced, tiresome, energetic game, deeply rooted in Native American history. Originally the game was executed to resolve conflicts over a large areas often resulting in violence with the potential for the individuals to be involved for days at a time. Nowadays there is a clear difference between women's and men's lacrosse. Sportworks will be working alongside the Women's English Lacrosse Association to deliver the national U19 (A and B) and the U15 (A) competitions next year.

Sportworks are incredibly proud to be delivering the 2011 Championships, and look forward to growing the event to provide the sport with not only a prestigious competition, but also an event to rival anything else in the national calendar.
