The majority of the venues used for the Games will be , in the Greater London area, within the newly developed Olympic Park or nearby at venues such as Greenwich Park. There will be other venues being used throughout the UK. These will include football matches being played in England, Scotland and Wales to ease the burden on London's stadia.
In London the venues will be divided into three zones, in order to make this as easy as possible Sportworks have broken these zones down below:
This zone will be based in the east area of Stratford, and will include all of the facilities within a 2km radius of the Olympic Park. Among these facilities will be the Olympic Stadium, the Aquatics Centre, the Basketball Arena and the amazing looking Velodrome.
Running alongside the River Thames are the venues for boxing, artistic gymnastics and equestrian, among several others. The relatively new O2 Arena, where several sports are held, is the former Millennium Dome.
The remaining venues throughout London will be part of the central zone. These will include Wembley Stadium, the world famous Lords Cricket Ground, Hyde Park and the majority of the Marathon route.
